Charlotte moved to Brisbane in 2012 to work at Vaxxas, a start-up biotechnology company, who have worked on the development of a patch to efficiently deliver vaccines to the abundant immune cells immediately below the skin surface.
In 2023 Vaxxas moved to a new manufacturing facility and in developing their new site dedicated an area to ‘Charlotte’s garden’ – ‘a space to step back from work deadlines and complexities, and come together to reconnect, laugh, dance and breathe’.
On August 1st Charlotte’s family made the trip to Brisbane to take part in the official opening of the garden and to recognise the contribution Charlotte had made to Vaxxas and the way in which she had touched the lives of so many people.
Charlotte’s family were given a tour of the new facility before joining many of her colleagues to celebrate the opening of the garden. In his speech, Charlotte’s boss Dr Angus Forster spoke of the important role Charlotte played in the growth of Vaxxas as an organisation and in the development of a positive and supportive work culture. Charlotte’s Mam Virgie unveiled the plaque bearing the garden’s name and it was a fantastic opportunity for the family to catch up with friends and colleagues of Charlotte who had supported her through her illness, when Covid restrictions meant that family could not travel to Australia.
The visit was also an opportunity to share information about the work of Charlotte’s Vision – leaflets were distributed and a Charlotte’s vision t-shirt was presented to Charlotte’s colleagues, which will take pride of place on display in the garden.
